Close to the museums and Hyde Park, this is a nice place to revive yourself after a visit to an exhibition. It feels as if you are in a hay loft, not in the middle of London when you visit this small bakery and tea room which overlooks a busy courtyard below. Some excellent breads, cakes and filled pasties can be ordered here as well as teas, coffee and juices. Try their filled mushroom croissants…the best in London. Aveda 28-29 Marylebone High Street, W1 Tel. 020 7224 3157 Rather nice restaurant inside Aveda, a sumptuous temple to "natural" beauty, (this is also a good place to spot celebrities at lunch). National Gallery Café In central London the best places to sit down for a snack are in galleries and museums. The Gallery Café has a good selection of sandwiches and salads, and a selection of hot food available between 11.30 and 15.00. They also have some nice puddings such as lemon tart or apricot cheesecake. This is also a good location for afternoon tea. Tate Britain not only has some interesting temporary exhibitions, the basement café serves excellent coffee and rather nice sandwiches. Not cheap, but convivial and lively.
